I obtained the Eagle rank the same year I started college and was forced to leave scouting behind. Marriage, two kids, and a job that required long business trips kept me from getting involved in scouting for most of my adult life. The fantastic scout experience was always in the back of my mind and I felt the need to give back to a program that had so profoundly impacted my life. Once the kids were on their own and the job wasn’t so demanding, I found time to get involved with scouting. First, it was just helping with a few troop events. Eventually I took on the District Chairman’s duties and helped start a Youth Court/Venturing Post in Nowata. Later I replaced my Father on the Council Executive Board. I only wish that I had started giving back earlier. |
