Guidelines Specifically for Cub Scout Unit-Coordinated Camping

As of September 1, 2023, Cub Scout Pack unit-coordinated camping is limited to two-night camping experiences. 

Cub Scout camping is limited to a council’s designated locations with appropriate facilities.

  • The facilities listed below have been reviewed and approved for Cub Scout Camping by the Cherokee Area Council.
  • Units may request a site appraisal from the council but cannot do their own appraisal.  To request an appraisal for a site, contact one of the individuals below.

Grand Lake District

Bernice Area at Grand Lake State Park – 54101 E. State Highway 85A – Afton OK 74331

  • Date appraisal expires: 8/14/2025
  • Notes: Established campsites only

Blue Creek Campground at Oologah Lake – 13400 E. 390 Rd. – Claremore OK 74017

  • Date appraisal expires: 8/21/2025
  • Notes: Group campsite available – Family camp may want to camp closer to playground

Eagle Bluff at Twin Bridges – 14820 OK-137 – Miami OK 74354

  • Date appraisal expires: 8/14/2025
  • Notes: Large area near playground equipment

Hawthorn Bluff at Oologah Lake – 8377 OK-88 – Oologah OK 74053

  • Date appraisal expires: 8/21/2025
  • Notes: A pavilion with gazebo, fire ring, and outdoor seating is available – Some sites are closed from October 31 to April 1

Honey Creek Area at Grand Lake State Park – 901 State Park Rd. – Grove OK 74344

  • Date appraisal expires: 8/14/25
  • Notes: Campsites on the Northwest side  between the road and lake are not approved for Cub Scout camping

Spencer Creek Campground at Oologah Lake – 6998 S. 4180 Rd. – Claremore OK 74017

  • Notes: Campsite 63-69 in B Loop are on a bluff and not approved, see map

Squirrel Trail at Twin Bridges – 14820 OK-137 – Miami OK 74354

  • Notes: Better suited for Scouts BSA

Osage Hills District

Camp McClintock – 215 CR 2427 – Bartlesville OK 74003

  • Notes: No swimming facilities are available, No recreational vehicle sites are available, No permanent cooking station is available at each camping site, No playground equipment is available
  • Reserve campsites using the Camp McClintock Reservation System
